Thank you for taking the opportunity to get to know me better. What an exciting year this will be for us all. I'm fired up about furthering my service within McLean county, the largest county in Illinois, and engaging with the hard working, family focused and downright amazing members of our community.
First as an advocate and now as a candidate for public office, many have considered me a voice of reason and sound judgement; empowering others to find their voice and someone known to tackle the hard issues. I grew up in Chicago, IL, proudly served in the United States Navy, and upon completion of my military service, relocated to Bloomington, IL to become an ISU Redbird! I am an Illinois State University School of Communication alum with a Master of Arts degree in Public Relations. I also have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Politics & Government, along with an ABA accredited paralegal certification.
My life's work has involved policy research and development, civic responsibility, human services and community engagement for as long as I can remember. My desire to confront society's and government’s most critical problems catapulted me into a journey of advocacy at a young age. Hence, my desire to make a difference in my own backyard; locally.
I have served on the McLean County Human Service Council as a Board Member, Life CILS advocate, Unit 5 School District Diversity Advisory Committee Board Member, Multicultural Leadership Program Social Justice Panelist, PFLAG committee member, Not In Our Town Committee Member, McLean County Foster Care Coalition Board Member, and currently serve on the City of Bloomington Cultural District Commission where I was appointed in 2016, mentor at the Boys & Girls Club/ Lawrence Irving Neighborhood Center of Bloomington-Normal and oversee the City of Bloomington Fire & Police Commission.
Professionally, I am a public relations professional with eight years of experience in the corporate, agency and nonprofit sector. This work involves community relations, relationship building, political & organizational communication, civic/political engagement, social media & network management, mediation, corporate reputation management, key message design, image restoration and brand building.
In my current role with the City of Bloomington as the Human Resource Employment Coordinator, I orchestrate the recruitment, human resources, training and development in an effort to secure adequate employment for the City of Bloomington. As the Employment Coordinator, I lead, coordinate, and manage the city’s recruitment, selection and onboarding processes, and assist departments with filling openings for existing positions which includes writing job descriptions for new positions. I also exhibit fiscal responsibility through budget management, conducting candidate sourcing, screening applications, interviewing applicants, proctoring/administering applicant testing and coordinating the onboarding process for new hires.
However, prior to this role, I served as clerk of the court for Administrative Court. During this time I helped to establish this unique court system, create procedural improvements, develop key documents, and promote the advancement of public safety and community relationships for the benefit of both the City of Bloomington and its residents.
Throughout my 15 years in McLean County, it has been a pleasure to serve on numerous boards and commissions. From managing and assisting the Bloomington Police & Fire Commission; serving on the Bloomington Cultural District Commission; advocating for diversity and social justice; to standing up for our neighbors with disabilities. Service has been at the core of my existence and I look forward to extending this life of service as your new McLean County Clerk on November 6, 2018!
